NY5541 : Ruined tower, Kirkoswald Castle

taken 7 years ago, near to Kirkoswald, Cumbria, England

Ruined tower, Kirkoswald Castle
Ruined tower, Kirkoswald Castle
Just a fragment of the castle still stands. The lack of fallen stone suggests that it was largely taken away for use elsewhere (most likely the nearby village). The castle had the dubious 'honour' of a destructive visit by Robert the Bruce in 1214 but was later rebuilt. Parts were later transferred to NY5662 : Naworth Castle.
