From The Auld Brig End
Looking north towards Newton-on-Ayr's River Street from the end of the Auld Brig. From the left: River Street Mission Hall, Carnegie Hairdressing, The Swan Restaurant (claiming to be the oldest one in Ayr), The Black Bull Inn (known by Robert Burns as Simpson's Inn) and the modern structure built for ASDA and now occupied by T.K.Maxx. The Auld Brig may have been saved from demolition many years ago through the fame of being a central feature of Burns's poem "The Brigs Of Ayr". Burns predicted that the cobbled medieval bridge would outlast the new one, and this proved to be true.
