Old graves at Llanfaelog Parish Church

Some of these are graves of the 17th and 18thC victims of local "wreckers". The then very remote communities of Rhosneigr and Llanfaelog were notorious for the nefarious deeds of gangs who enticed ships towards the offshore reefs. An attempt by the authorities to bring some of these men to justice was thwarted by an inebriated judge at the Beaumaris Assizes who cheated the hangman by releasing the prisoners.
