Covenanters Memorial, Dreghorn
Covenanters Memorial, Dreghorn
Memorial to the Covenanters who died at the Battle of Rullion Green which terminated the so-called 'Pentland Rising' of 1666. It stands directly outside the entrance to Dreghorn Barracks and comprises four Ionic columns taken from the demolished first Royal Infirmary in Infirmary Street. The Covenanters, mainly from the South West of Scotland, were marching on Edinburgh to petition the Scottish parliament when they were intercepted and defeated by a numerically superior force of royalist dragoons led by General Tam Dalziel.
