The track follows the line of the railway branch to Harby and Stathern. It was part of the meandering line built jointly by the Great Northern and London and North Western Railways through eastern Leicestershire from Market Harborough to Newark, which managed to serve nowhere in particular. This branch provided a link towards Nottingham.
