Birmingham Central Library
Birmingham Central Library
The Paradise Circus elevation of the library. The building has been described as an inverted ziggurat, with each floor extending outwards further than the floor below. Originally the inner area was open to the sky with a pedestrian way through but the ground floor level was later roofed and filled with burger bars and the like. Opened in 1974, it is due to be demolished when the new library, currently being built in Centenary Square, is completed.
