The Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, Ilmington
Showing the fine Norman Tower. The height of the tower was raised by ten feet many years ago to make it possible for the bells to be heard in the distant hamlets of Stoke and Compton Scorpion. Other notable features of the church include the "Apple Map" wall hanging, created locally to celebrate the many varieties of apple that were once grown around the village, and the wooden furnishings which are the work of Robert Thomson of Kilburn in Yorkshire. Eleven examples of his signature, a carved mouse, can be found around the church. One is shown here SP2043 : Church mouse.
