The picturesque stone bridge over the River Coquet at Warkworth which was built in the late 14th century proved totally inadequate for 20th century traffic. It was replaced in 1965 by this singularly unlovely concrete bridge carrying the A1068.
The only photo posted to date that shows both spans (each 60') of the old bridge, which formerly had a cross ion the centre. Once there was also a portcullis in the gateway at the south end of the bridge. [Murray's Handbook:1890].
