Gasholder - soon gone
Gasholder - soon gone
Norwich's last remaining gas holder, dating from the 1890s, can be seen in the background. The structure has, however, recently been earmarked for demolition by the National Grid, as will be an underground one nearby. The Victorian gas holder is locally listed and Norwich City Council had hoped that consideration could be given to keeping it as part of a development of up to 15 homes on the site, but the National Grid has declined, saying this is not possible. The demolition work is said to involve between 5 and 16 lorries per day for the duration of about 54 weeks.
